This article shows you how to publish template pages. It also describes how to edit content and add pages.
Though there are two types of template pages—Details and Repeater component—the steps required to publish are similar. However, the Details template gives you a couple of customisation options which are not available with the Repeater template.
1 Publishing Details pages
1.1 Previewing
The first step is to preview your output. The preview for a Details template shows one item from the data set.
The example below shows the template structure for one wine product.
1.2 Publishing
- Once you are satisfied with the layout and design of the Details template, return to the Edit Content page and click the Publish button.
- In the confirmation box, click the Publish Selected button. The template pages are now live.
1.3 Locating the number of published pages
After publishing, return to the Edit Content page. Next to the template file name, you can see the number of published pages.
- The number of published pages should match the number of items in the data set.
1.4 Viewing individual pages
- To view a list of individual pages, click the number next to the template file name (as shown above in 1.3). A new Website Content page displays and shows the link for each published page.
- To view an individual page, click a URL. The page displays. You can see the template layout and content dynamically pulled from the data set.
- Return to the content page and then click another link to check a different item. The page layout is the same but the content is different.
1.5 Editing individual pages
There are two ways to edit data on an individual page: on the page or in the data set. You can't change the layout; those changes must be done on the template page.
After editing content on a page or in a data set, click Publish to make changes live. Clicking Save only updates changes in your account. After publishing content changes on an individual page, the revised information is automatically saved to the data set.
1.5.1 Editing content on the page
- Go to the Website Content page and hover the mouse pointer on the template page you want to edit. A menu displays.
- Click Edit Data. The Edit Page Data panel displays.
- Edit the data and then click Save.
- Repeat for other pages, as required.
- Scroll up to the top of the page and then click the Publish button.
- Return to the Website Content page, click the page link, and view the live page again. The edits have been saved and published.
1.5.2 Editing the data set
Making changes inside the data set is simple.
- Go to the data set.
- Find the correct cell you want to modify and then enter the new data. There is no Save button; changes are saved automatically.
- Return to the Website Content page and then click the number next to the template file. A new page displays.
- Scroll up to the top of the page and then click Publish.
- Inspect the live page. It has the revised information.
1.6 Adding pages
There are two ways to add one or more pages.
1.6.1 Adding items to the data set
This process is similar to editing information in the data set.
- Go to the data set and add a new item (e.g. a row of data).
- Go to the Website Content page and then click the number next to the template file. A new page displays.
- Scroll up to the top of the page and then click Publish.
- Check the number of pages. The number should be larger.
- Click the link to inspect the new page (or pages).
- Go to the Website Content page. The number of pages next to the file name should be larger.
1.6.2 Adding a page
The second option is to create a new page.
- Go to the Website Content page and locate the template file you want to modify.
- Click the number next to the file name. The Website Content area for that template displays.
- At the top of the page, click Create page. The Add Data Page panel displays.
- On the Add Page Data panel, enter data into the fields for the new page.
- Click Save. The page is now saved as a draft.
- Scroll up to the top of the page and then click Publish. A new published page appears on the list.
- Go to the Website Content page and check the number of pages next to the template file name. It should be larger.
2 Publishing a Repeater template page
2.1 Previewing
The first step is to preview your output. The preview for a Repeater template shows all items from a data set on a single page.
The example below shows the Repeater template structure for used cars. The data set has three items.
2.2 Publishing
- Once you are satisfied with the layout and design of the Repeater template, return to the Edit Content page and click the Publish button.
- In the confirmation box, click the Publish Selected button. The page is now live.
2.3 Viewing the live page
After publishing, return to the Edit Content page. Beside the Repeater template file name, you can see the page link. Unlike the Details template, the Repeater template generates a single published page.
Click the link and the page displays. Scroll up and down the page to view the structured content.
2.4 Editing individual pages
You cannot edit a published page at the page level. All layout changes must be made on the template page and all content changes must be made in the data set.
If you change the template page, save the file and then click the Publish button to make the changes live.
To edit content:
- Go to the data set and modify the content.
- Go to the Website Content page and hover the mouse pointer on the template page you want to edit. A menu displays.
- Click Edit Template. The Edit Content page displays
- On the Edit Content page, click Preview. The template page previews with modified information.
- Return to the Edit Content page and then click Publish.
- Inspect the live page. It should have the revised content.
2.5 Adding items
Adding a new item to the list is easy. It's the same process as editing information.
- Go to the data set and add a new item (e.g. a row of data).
- Go to the Website Content page and hover the mouse pointer on the template page you want to edit. A menu displays.
- Click Edit Template. The Edit Content page displays
- On the Edit Content page, click Preview. The template page previews with a new item.
- Return to the Edit Content page and then click Publish.
- Inspect the live page. It should have the new item in the list.
